United Nation

In today’s class, we had learned about United Nation (UN). United Nation is not the strange things for me anymore because I used to attend a speech where the speaker is Mrs. Judy Chan from Malaysia and talking about her experiences by working UN. Today, Dr.Faousiy had gave a briefly explanations about the United Nation.

United Nation is an international organisation which consists of 194 nations from around the world. UN’s aims are to facilitating cooperation in international laws, international security and economic development, serial progress, human right and achievement of world peace. UN was founded in 1945 after World War II, and its roles want to stop the wars between countries in order to provide platform to build communication between the countries. The location of headquarters of UN is in New York City but the main office at Geneva and Vienna. UN uses the most official language around the world to communicate within the countries. The six official languages are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Not only that, we also had been exposed with the six principal and their roles. From my understanding, UN only has six principles organs that help them to accomplish their missions and visions. The six principles organs in UN are General Assembly, Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, Secretariat, International Court of Justice and United Nation Trusteeship Council. UN also have other supporter system agencies include WHO (World Health Organisation), WFP (World Food Programme) and UNICEF (United Nation Children Fund). From my understanding, Secretary General where is has been held by Ban-Ki-Moon of South Korea; is the most prominent position in UN.

In this lesson, we more focused to discuss only for General Council and Security Assembly roles in UN. From my point of view, General Assembly is the oversees the benefits of UN and General Assembly receiving reports from other parts of UN organs and General Assembly will be passes the recommendations in form of General  Assembly Resolutions. Security Council is charged to maintaining the peace and security among the countries. Any decisions making from Security Council known as United Nations Security Council Resolutions.

Actually, I already familiar with the United Nation, but today’s lesson was giving me a very good specification about United Nation such as the official language that UN used for create peace, roles and so on.
