Is Japan able to enter modernity, be a leading center of technology because of their ethical values?

Thursday, February, 21st, 2013 was the day of the week 6 class for ethics subject. Today was a bit different from the previous week since normally Thursday class is a tutorial class but today class was changed into a lecture class and was moved to lecture theater 1 instead.  This lecture was delivered by Dr.Hamid and Ms. Siti Nor. This class was an interesting class. We learned about the ethic of Japan which is in the third largest economy country in the world, and we also learned about the Islamic ethic.

In the first session of this class, I know more things about Japan. Japan is the island country which has 6852 islands. There are four main islands: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. Japanese language is the combination of Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Each of these has different function of using. Hiragana is used for write Japanese words. Katakana is used for foreign language writing. And the last one, Kanji is Chinese words. Japan has been influenced several thousand years of powerful religious and metaphysical conditioning that were entirely different from influence in the western world. They have been philosophically influenced by the Shinto ethic, the Confucian ethic, and the Buddhism ethic Japanese religion has traditionally syncretism in nature, combining element of Buddhism and Shinto.   Buddhism was import into Japan through China and Korea. Shinto is the original religion of Japanese. Ethic Japan comes from Buddhism, Shinto and Confucianism. In Japan, there is not very strong recognition of individual right in relation to privacy, intellectual property, and freedom of information. Japanese is rule-base-viewer. The precise system of doing things base on form and process a system that came to know as “do “ or “way”  such as the way that Japanese exchange the business card, the special gift-giving custom , ..Etc. Japanese businesses ethic, there is a Japanese word—Keiei that equals to business in Japan. This word stands for “making effort to develop societies harmoniously and raise well being-well of people. In the Japan businesses ethic, the discipline is in the first rank and economic practice in the second rank of important. In Japanese societies, responsibility is very high among them. There is such a good sentence that indicates this: ”take responsibility and resign”. Japan is a very developed country; even though, this country is located in area which has a lot of earth quake and also lack of natural resources. Technology in Japan is extremely modern. The Japan economic also is very developed. There are a lot of large enterprise that export product to many countries all around the world such as Toyota, Canon, Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Nippon steel ,..Etc. Is Japan able to enter modernity, be a leading center of technology because of their ethic?

In my opinion, Japan has been able to become a very modern, a leading center of technology country; their ethics contributes a very big part in this brilliant achievement.  As we know that ethic is principle right or wrong conduction. This principle leads people to think about what they should do and should not. In Japanese ethic, there are a lot of good things, which I think, are the roots that make Japan develop. For instance, Japanese has high responsibility. In 2011, Japanese Prime minister Noato Kan resigned from his position because of amid mounting criticism over his government’s handling of the country’s worst natural disaster and nuclear accident. This is so how Japan people take responsibility to their duty when they cannot do it .They let other person who has enough ability to do it. Moreover, in the world war time, there were many Japanese woman married with man in others nation because of their country’s sake. They could kill their husband. Even though, this killing was wrong if we think in general as human being. But Japanese think it is right. This shows how Japanese ethic leads its people to everything for their country.
