On week 5, we have done one activity during tutorial which all of us were divided into a few groups and there should be at most 3 people in each group. Each group was named as animal’s names such as rat, cat, lion, donkey and so forth. Then, we were given about 6 topics which are business ethics, media ethics, political ethics, educational ethics, medical ethics, internet ethics and facebook or internet ethics. Actually my group was given a topic about political ethics and we had discussed about it during the tutorial whereby we had to give our opinion on political ethics in both negative and positive side.
Here, I would like to give my point of view regarding the internet ethics or facebook ethics as my group have already discussed about political ethics during the class. In fact, ethics is about what is good and how we should think about good. It is the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or particular or issue such as medical ethics, internet ethics and so forth. Actually using internet or facebook is good because it has many benefits to us.
In my point of view, I think it depends on us to determine whether that thing is good or bad. It depends on how we use it. If we use it in a good way, then internet is good and beneficial to us. For example, as a student, we can use internet to do the research or to gather resources because nowadays lecturer started giving the assignments that require an extensive research on the internet. In addition, by using internet or facebook also can help people to connect with the others from different countries. Apart from connecting with other people from different countries, we can also find our long-lost friends, look for a job, do a business by using social networking and so forth.
However, internet or facebook become worst because of the way we use it as well. Nowadays people become addicted to the internet which might affect their studies performance. Besides, teenager or children become addicted to the games which also can give an impact to their behavior. Thus, according to the research that I have read before, children or teenager become naughty, stubborn and lazy because of internet. Sometimes, they argue with their parent and end up with fighting.
Internet ethics means acceptable behavior on using internet which is good to all whereby we should be honest, respect the rights and property of others on the internet. In order to use internet or facebook in ethical way, we have to avoid using it to harm others such as internet crime or hacking. Hence, we should not use internet or facebook to fool others by pretending to be someone else and so on.
Last but not least, I think it is good for us to learn this subject which is about the ethics and morality as it has many benefits to us. It helps us to differentiate what is good and what is bad. Hopefully, after this my friends and I will use the internet/facebook or behave ethically without harming others or even ourself. That is all from me. Thank you.
