Globalization can destroy cultural values

Today’s class was lectured by Prof Evangelos, he lectured about globalization which he said it is the process of extending social relations across, trade, cultural so on and so on across the world. Such extensions arise from the movements of people, things and ideas. And I learnt that Globalization describes the interplay across cultures of macro-social forces. These forces include religion, politics, and economics. Advances in transportation and telecommunications infrastructure, including the rise of the Internet, are major factors in globalization, generating further interdependence of economic and cultural activities.

But, in my opinion globalization can destroy cultural values. Although it is an important matter but people are not taking it seriously, globalization is good but it has to have limits where it should not take away the important values of a nation where they lived in it for thousands of years.

Furthermore, there were questions asked in the class such as “if globalization is a new phenomenon or old”? Almost all the students were agreed with Prof Evangelos that globalization is not a new phenomenon it is very old. I raised my hand and said now it is a new phenomenon because of these reasons. One  when we say globalization that means all the world if we are saying internet is a global network everyone is agree with that because people are connected to the internet from all over the world or if we say MacDonald’s restaurant is a part of globalization we would say yes that’s true, because MacDonald’s serves food in almost 90% of the countries. However, my opinion was rejected.

As conclusion today’s class was interesting because the students could debate, share their ideas and ask questions even if they were not convinced but still in was a good class. Looking forward for next class.
