Ethical Dilemma

During this week, Mr.Jaimmy continued our class and it was very interesting and funny although unexpected quiz made us think hardly as it really puzzled us. We were asked to reflect on the question which was given in this way “I would never make a decision to kill another human being”. But if you could save 10 innocent children playing beside the track of train station and 1 child was playing at the train track that means both are in equal risk, in such situation you were passing there and you saw them, then whom would you save and whom would you let to kill?”

According to my view, this question is related to utilitarian ethics which emphasizes only on the result or the consequences. It defines that, whether a person uses right or wrong to do something beneficial for him or society then it is ethically accepted. So here this question also reflects similar situation. If I kill a child to save 10 children then I would be using utilitarian ethic in action. Because I would be only concern with the result which is saving 10 children but fact remains that I killed someone a human being then probably I am using proper ethic which cause less harm and more body beneficial for children. I choose to make this decision because at least one should sacrifice and if I did not save 10 children then the train will kill 10 children in order to save one child.

To add on this , If I save 10 children does not mean that I don’t want to save another child rather I am trying my best to be more ethical in order to get good consequences. I know that my decision might not be fully right to some people but it also might be correct for some other. So, the situation is completely contextual and there is no such a correct alternatives because of which we were been compelled to take quick decision. But such problem could be solve if we are able to take decisions with full of love and compassion. ave and whom would you let to kill?”
