Same as the past two weeks, we are going to learn another 5 branches of contemporary ethical issue, which are divorce, corruption, humanitarian intervention, torture and plagiarism. Aside from humanitarian intervention, I have already understood the other four contemporary ethical issues.
Torture is an act of deliberately inflicting severe physical and mental pain to the victim that can lead to death. Most of the time, it is only use for punishment, revenge, political reeducation and interrogation. As for corruption, it only occurs when high ranking officer or politicians are being bribed. I do not need to explain much about plagiarism, since many of us are doing this unethical act. It is like a ‘cut and paste’ work from other people’s work and claim that it is yours without acknowledging to the rightful owner. It is also considered as an academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics.
I am sure what ‘divorce’ means. It is an act of breaking the bond between husband and wife when both parties could not tolerate with each other. Most it is not good to have a divorce as it gives a lot of negative impact to the family, especially the children. However, I am surprised to learn that there is an advantage to it, which is to have free household tension. If I were to look it in another angle, I have to agree to someone who always quarrels whenever they see each other. Humanitarian intervention is a unilateral intervention for protection of another state’s nationals from human rights violation. For the positive outlook, it can provide protection and support to those in dire needs, such as the United Nation. Also, it provides ways of immediately stop hostility and start the de-escalation process. However, there are chances that they can monopolize our freedom.
In my point of view, all this contemporary ethical issue always raises due to human’s ugly attitude. If we were to use the gentle and kind way to resolve problems with possessing the right attitude, I am sure the world will become a better place to live.
