Business Ethics

Business ethics is form of professional ethics that look at moral and ethical problems that arose in the business environment. Business ethics determine the essential purpose of a company. The main issues concerning business ethics are avoiding actions that are bad for the company’s image or breaking the laws of the company.

For over 2,000 years philosophers have systematically addressed the issue of right and wrong. It would have been a great thing if they could teach employees the basic understanding of morality to keep them on the right track. Anyhow, personally I believe that a person can only learn about good morality during his or her childhood by the parents and early social environment. So by the time the philosophers enter the picture, it’s too late to change the moral predispositions of an adult.

Business ethics has both good side and bad side. For instance, the good ethics that is practiced by the business companies is the presence of formality and following the laws of conduct of a company. On the other hand, the negative aspect of the business ethics, is the fact that their main aim is to earn profit, so it’s not important to them where and when to get.

Lastly, I think that good ethics results good business, which simply means that moral businesses practices are profitable. For example, it is profitable to make safe products since this will reduce product liability lawsuits. Similarly, it may be in the best financial interests of businesses to respect employee privacy, since this will improve morale and thus improve work efficiency.
